Four-time national superbike champion Maico Buncio died Sunday after suffering serious injuries following a crash a day before during time trials in Clark Field, Pampanga.
Buncio was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at the UST Hospital. His remains lie at the Loyola Memorial Chapels in Guadalupe, Makati.
The 22-year-old rider was riding at high speed before a freak accident threw him off his bike into a steel railing, puncturing his internal organs.
He suffered serious injuries after spinning out of control at a hairpin turn and hit a round bar and skidded 100 meters on the track. Buncio was brought to the intensive care unit of the University of Sto. Tomas hospital in Manila where he expired due to massive internal bleeding.
Buncio was acknowledge of many as the fastest rider of two wheels and the country’s four-time national superbike champion that received title, the ‘Golden Wheel Awards’ Driver of the Year’ and even won many biggest titles in several local racing competition.
He started his racing career at the age of 3. His tempting enthusiast brought back the excitement in local motorsports racing.
